Job Summary

Tutor Doctor offers 1 on 1 private tutoring that takes place in the students' homes (or alternatively online). We work with our students to develop individual tutoring that focuses not only on enhancing the knowledge of the students, but also on improving their self-esteem, self-confidence, and their organizational skills.

Overview

  • Tutors are matched to pre-screened students based on qualifications, subject/grade expertise, availability, personality and location.
  • Most assignments are long-term commitments.
  • Our marketing and referral network provide a steady stream of available students, as well as ongoing support and access to many resources.
  • You can select your students and tutoring times to fit your schedule.
  • Tutoring sessions are primarily in-home, but can be online if necessary.
  • Tutoring sessions are typically during the late afternoon or evening hours and sometimes on weekends.
  • Receive a detailed profile of your student prior to tutoring including academic history, current needs and goals.
  • Clients pre-pay directly to Tutor Doctor and our simplified invoice system makes getting paid for your work quick, easy, and reliable.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct tutoring sessions.
  • Work with pre-screened students to deliver a tailored and structured tutoring plan developed based on their needs, at student’s homes.
  • Manage and educate students individually in a non-classroom setting.
  • Design and implement lesson plans at varying academic levels.
  • Establish academic goals and milestones with students.
  • Provide constructive feedback for students.
  • Work with students and families to schedule consistent weekly tutoring sessions.
  • Address clients’ concerns, questions and requests.
  • Must be able to commit to at least a 6-month tutoring contract.
  • Write lessons reports and address open items with manager.
  • Seek guidance on students issues when needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Physically located in or near East of Ontario (Durham Region - Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Courtice, Bowmanville and Newcastle).
  • College/University graduate, upper level College/University student, and professionals.
  • Previous experience in teaching/ tutoring a plus.
  • Ability to build rapport with students.
  • Core knowledge of specific educational subjects.
  • Ability to do lesson planning and follow-up.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to travel to the student in their home.
  • Having a personality that is adaptable to different types of students.
  • Have good assessment skills and be able to change strategies if they are proving ineffective or the student prefers another learning style.
  • Strong administration skills
  • Strong typing, PC and recording skills.
  • Access to the internet, a computer, and a smart phone.

Location

  • East of Ontario (Durham Region - Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Courtice, Bowmanville and Newcastle)

Compensation

  • $17 to $24 (depending on experience, subject, number of students, length of assignment)

Other

  • Must be able to pass and/or provide current background check

Job Type

Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, occasionally on Saturdays

  • Teaching or tutoring: 1 year (preferred)

Work Location

  • Students’ home.

Hours per week

  • Flexible, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM on week days
  • Weekends depends on the Tutor and the Student schedules
