In the Mechanical Operations unit, we are committed to providing a cost effective service for our fleet of highway maintenance equipment. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual that has the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Reporting to the Manger of Mechanical Operations, the ideal candidate will have experience supervising mechanical staff in a shop environment including evaluating performance, establishing work plans and coordinating scheduled workloads to maximize efficiency. Essential Qualifications (what we’re looking for in your resume):

  • Experience managing a team/people, such as:
    • leading, mentoring, coaching,
    • resolving conflicts, miscommunications, or problems; using prescribed programs to help facilitate a positive and productive work environment and general management of a team.
    • delegating individual responsibilities and projects to team members and contractors.
  • Experience in coordinating daily task according to priorities and plans; establish methods to meet work schedules and coordinate work activities with other groups.
  • Experience maintaining a safety program; emphasizing safe use of tools, proper PPE, safety inspections, meetings, and ensuring safe working conditions.
  • Experience with managing and obtaining materials and supplies; working with other groups to achieve timely material requests to help maintain productivity.
  • Experience working as a ticketed Red Seal Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Conditions of Employment

  • Red Seal Heavy Equipment Mechanic certification (upon hire),
  • Valid Class 5 Yukon Driver's Licence (upon hire),
  • Valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence with air endorsement (must be obtained within 6 months of hire),
  • WHMIS (must be obtained within 6 months of hire)

Job Requirements

Lift heavy objects, use of personal protective equipment, work in adverse weather conditions, work at heights of 6-10 feet, willingness to guide and work with apprentice mechanics.
