USFA negotiates terms and conditions of employment for full-time faculty with the university, including salary, benefits, and collegial processes. USFA also represents and advises members when disputes arise about the interpretation of our Collective Agreement.

The University of Saskatchewan Faculty Association (USFA) invites applications for the position of a full-time Professional Officer to provide labour relations advice and representation services for faculty members who are academic employees of the University of Saskatchewan.

We welcome applicants with a degree in Law and a minimum of 3–5 years of experience in labour relations. An equivalent level of post-secondary education and professional experience will be considered. We particularly welcome candidates with proven experience in labour relations within a university environment. Experience should include knowledge of how to interpret collective agreements, the ability to facilitate the resolution of disputes, and management of formal grievances.

The candidate should demonstrate leadership skills and sound judgment in a variety of difficult situations. The ability to develop strong working relationships within the organization and with representatives of the employer is necessary to fulfill workload responsibilities.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of four full-time and one part-time office staff reporting to USFA’s 12-person Executive Committee led by a Chair and Vice-Chair elected by the Executive.

Working under the direction of the Executive, the Professional Officer’s responsibilities will include:

  • general administration of the Collective Agreement, including interpretation of language
  • confidential advising
  • representing members on various issues
  • informal conflict and dispute resolution
  • providing labour relations advice and support to the Executive and its various committees

The successful candidate will be expected to work primarily at the USFA Office located on the university campus.

USFA has more than 1,000 faculty members in a U15 University with a reputation for excellence in teaching, research, and scholarly activities, which offers a full range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs to a student population of 26,000.

Salary range: $99,945–$163,766 commensurate with education and experience
