The Senior Communication Consultant designs and leads the end-to-end execution of communication strategy on medium-risk, medium-complexity efforts that support the business unit's core strategies, adhering to the firm's Change framework and communication methodology, firm internal brand and voice, systems, and tools to ensure efficiency, consistency, and alignment with other capabilities
Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Lead the strategic execution, activation, and performance of the business unit's highest-impact channels and/or multiple channels, through process management, strong technical acumen, and targeted stakeholder needs. This could include digital, video, and internal social media. Responsible for executing channel delivery, coordinating across multiple channels, and collaborating with other Change & Communications (C&C) associates and leaders.
  • Demonstrate strong execution and consultation skills to anticipate and respond to shifts in strategy as warranted, leveraging data and stakeholder input to adjust the execution plan when necessary to drive measurable action from the target audience. Partner with Business Leaders to track and report progress towards sustainable outcomes.
  • Identify and analyze communication metrics to optimize communication opportunities and resolution of problems across multiple projects.
  • Support communication channel best practices and preserve channel integrity by informing key stakeholders about channel guidelines that align with the business unit's internal brand and voice.
  • May informally lead others, as well as the matrixed leadership of resources from enabling functions that support the complex change management and communication execution efforts.
  • Partner with other areas of C&C and other enabling functions to plan and deliver a seamless, value-driven experience for our internal partners.
  • Partner with Consultants, Strategists, and other teams to identify and assess risks, issues, and opportunities with impacts for stakeholders related to other change underway and coordinate with those teams to integrate and align efforts, through the stakeholder lens.
  • Drive execution of identified improvements in internal communications content and channel delivery to reflect industry "best-in-class" practices that will strengthen C&C's impact and value.

Span of Control & Influence
  • Solve complex issues quickly in a cost-effective, collaborative manner, often without leader involvement, guidelines, or precedent, to ensure quality is upheld and deadlines are met.
  • Consult, advise and coach the Sponsor (executive level), Steering Committee, business leaders, and integration groups on communication strategies, communication channels and execution.
  • Direct, develop and implement creative solutions with no senior manager direction.
  • Navigate complicated group dynamics and conflicting feedback to recommend a solution that meets all parties' needs.
  • Build commitment and alignment by connecting firm strategy and business needs to the outcome(s) of the program.
  • Lead and provide direction for the overall cross-functional team involved in change execution, which could include multiple project change teams that roll up within the assigned portfolio.
  • Assume responsibility to communicate and deliver factual information; incorrect information could result in damage to the Edward Jones brand or reputation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate and influence senior stakeholders to optimum outcome.
  • Drive change by articulating business case benefits and value.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 7 or more years of communications, journalism, or marketing experience
  • 2 years of experience leading or coaching others
  • Excellent communication, writing and editing skills for different media and organizational/project management skills, including the ability to deliver under strict guidelines
  • Proven experience working a team-based or matrix environment while learning new technologies
  • Strong intrapersonal skills and judgement
  • Demonstrated success navigating complex, dynamic environments
  • Effectively build strong relationships to influence and gain consensus at all levels, including executive.

Preferred:
  • Degree in Journalism, Communication, English, web development or related degree/equivalent work experience preferred
  • Advanced degree or MBA strongly preferred
  • Experience in financial services, other highly regulated industries and change management
  • Comprehensive knowledge of internal communication strategies and deliver and how they can be integrated with other processes and tools.
