For over 70 years, John Ross & Sons has been a leader in the international metal market and the largest scrap metal recycling facility in Atlantic Canada. We are looking for an entry-level administrative assistant to join our dynamic and growing team in Halifax!

Our administrative assistant is adept, demonstrates strong attention to detail and exceptional analytical skills and works calmly under pressure. You possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and thrive in a client-focused, team-oriented environment. With the ability to adapt to changing priorities, you are flexible and do not mind taking on extra work to ensure the department is at the highest efficiency level.

Responsibilities will include:

Reporting directly to the Office Manager, the essential functions of the Administration Clerk will include, but are not limited to:

  • Be responsive to day-to-day issues, take a proactive role in improvement initiatives and be a high-performing team player.
  • Reception Duties
  • Customers Service
  • Scaling Truck Weights
  • Document Processing
  • Data Entry
  • Maintaining Purchases Spreadsheets
  • Cash Drawer and Reconciliation
  • General Office Filing
  • Assist with Inventory of Supplies.
  • Assist all departments with administrative tasks as and when required.
  • Keeping the work area clean and organized.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Excellent administrative and communication skills, oral and written.
  • A strong foundation in delivering excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work independently in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a commonsense approach.
  • Ability to analyze and determine priorities and adjust as circumstances change.
  • 2-4 years experience in a cash environment; able to multitask in a fast-past industrial environment in a positive and friendly manner.
  • Highly organized with an ability to prioritize a changing workload.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable/receivable will be considered an asset.

Hours of work:

Monday to Friday 7:00am to 5:00pm and alternating Saturdays 7:00am to 12:00pm (hours vary)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $35,000.00-$45,000.00 annually.
